Newberg, Ore. --- George Fox women's soccer team was exceptional in the drizzling rain on Saturday. Their last home game resulted in a 1-0 loss to No. 15-ranked Puget Sound. Despite the score, the Bruins actually displayed one of the best defensive efforts against a Logger team that hasn't lost a match this whole season.
Recap:
George Fox looked like they might be able to stave off the Loggers early on. Hannah Harder's quick strike of a shot in the 15th minute served as a warning for a Loggers defense that has only given up 3 goals all season, second-best in all of Division III.
Unfortunately, the tide would turn rather quickly. A foul by George Fox in the penalty box in the 22nd minute would result in a penalty kick by Amalia Acorda-Fey of Puget Sound. The kick would make it past Morgan Bars into the back of the net for the only goal of the game.
The rest of the game, notwithstanding the absence of any goals scored, would be one of the merciless defensive efforts the Bruins have exerted this season. All of Puget Sound's six shots on goal were stopped by the Bruin defense, outside of the lone penalty.
Top Performers:
Bruin defenders Caitlin Connor and Michelle Young were busy all day, muddling the Logger attack, disrupting the Puget Sound midfielders every time they approached the goal for a score. The fourth swordsmen shielding the goal, goalkeepers Ally Swanson and Morgan Bars, would let no shot pass through from Puget Sound's offensive assault. It was only fitting that in the last game for both at Austin Sport Complex, seniors Ally Swanson and Michelle Young gave their best efforts.
What This Means:
George Fox drops to 5-12-2 overall and 3-11-1 in conference, while Puget Sound improves to 15-0-4 overall and 11-0-4 in conference. The Bruins also honored these seven seniors before the game: Ally Swanson, Sarah Tuemmler, Ashley Richards, Jordyn Brenneman, Tenlee Holser, Michelle Young and Becca Allen.
What's Next:
The Bruins look to finish their season on a high note, looking to conquer the Wildcats of Linfield tomorrow at 12 p.m. in McMinnville.
