FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- George Fox University's men's basketball team traveled to Northwest Conference foe Pacific University for its second to last regular season match-up.

The Boxers beat the Bruins, 84-72, and improve to 12-12 overall and 7-8 in the NWC. The Bruins fall to 5-19 on the season and 3-12 in conference play.

In the opening minutes, the Bruins managed to work a 13-9 lead after both teams traded baskets back and forth at a frantic pace. The hectic pace kept the scoreboard working just as hard as both teams, as the lead continued to change hands.

The Boxers went on a 6-0 run from 3:35 to 2:24 taking a 40-31 lead, but the Bruins rallied a run of their own to cut the lead to five, 40-35. Pacific ended the half scoring four-straight points to go into the break up, 44-35.

Both teams shot the ball at a high percentage as the Bruins had a 48.1 percent shooting clip from the field, while the Boxers shot 51.4 percent from the field.

The second half was filled up much slower basketball, as neither team wanted to give the other an inch. The Boxers managed to increase their lead to 10 at the 10:22 mark, but the Bruins wouldn't go down without a fight keeping the door cracked.

Although the Boxers had a lead anywhere from six to 14 points in the final eight minutes, the game was never over and the Bruins made sure the Boxers felt their pressure till the end.

Johnathan Doutt led all scorers on the night and finished with a career-high 22 points. Andrew Smith was one points of tying his career-high with 16 points. Brendin Quinn finished with 14, while Thomas Rico tallied 11. Quinn recorded his second double-double of the season grabbing 13 boards.

Pacific was led by Skyler Burgess and Mitch Wettig, who both finished with 20 points apiece.

George Fox will finish its season at home against Lewis & Clark on Friday, February 20 at 8:00 p.m.
