FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- The George Fox men's tennis team opened up the match with a 2-1 lead after doubles, but a comeback in singles would lead the Boxers of Pacific to a 7-2 victory.
Like they have done all year, the Bruins opened up strong in doubles taking an early 2-1 lead at the No.2 and No. 3 doubles matches. The Boxers were able to down the Bruins at the No. 1 doubles, and used their momentum in singles.
"This was a big battle for second place in conference," said head coach Neal Ninteman. "As expected, it was a tight match across the board, but we came up short in several close singles matches."
The Boxers took a 3-2 lead after taking the No. 6 and No. 4 singles with straight sets. The next three added a bunch of drama, as each went into three sets. The Boxers were able to secure the team victory with a close 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
With the loss, the Bruins stand at 7-2 and 5-2 in the Northwest Conference, while the Boxers improve to 7-1 and 6-1 in the NWC.
The Bruins will compete in non-conference competitions for the next week and a half with the first one on Monday, March 16 at 12:30 p.m. against Schreiner at home.
