Bruins Battle Tough With #21 Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. --- It was a one day business trip for the Bruins of George Fox, as they headed to perennial power house #21 Santa Cruz for an epic match.

The Bruins had a tough time clawing back at the Slugs after dropping the first three matches in doubles, but the resilient Bruins showed their true effort in singles play. The Bruins were down 4-0 in the match after a quick Slug' victory at #6, but Spencer Watanabe continued to show how tough he is at No. 1 taking down senior All-American Max Littlejohn (6-2, 6-2). The Bruins followed Watanabe to the finish line taking down #2 and #3 singles to bring the match within reach. The comeback was held just a bit short when Nicholas Grafton fell at #4 and Vincent Viloria lost a tough one at #5.

"Although we weren't able to pull out the win, there are a lot of positives for us to take from this match," said head coach Neal Ninteman. "We will take this effort and continue it as we head into the conference tournament and a battle for a spot at nationals."

The Bruins fall to 13-7 on the season and will close out their regular season play tomorrow afternoon when they host Willamette.
