NEWBERG, Ore. --- Today was a special day for George Fox men's tennis, not because they beat the Bearcats of Willamette, 8-1, but because they honored their lone senior and backbone of the team Chace Stalcup.
Stalcup finishes his senior season on a high note, as he has totaled a 12-1 record in doubles. His only loss of the year in double play came against #21 Santa Cruz, but when it comes to conference play he is unbeaten.
Today, Stalcup led the Bruins to an 8-1 victory as he won his match at the #5 spot helping the Bruins cruise to an 8-1 victory.
"Chase is the heart and soul of our team," said head coach Neal Ninteman. "It is very fitting for him to have such a terrific performance in his final home match."
The Bruins got off to an early start in the match, sweeping doubles with force. They continued that success in singles, as the No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 spots won their matches.
With the win, the Bruins head to the conference tournament next weekend. This is their fourth straight top three finish and makes the Bruins the only team other than Whitman to have qualified for the tournament four years in a row.
