Walla Walla, WA – After a tough start to conference play, the Bruins left the bad taste behind them, shellacking the Missionaries of Whitman College 3-0.
Recap:
After finding out how heartbreaking it can be by losing important sets by the thinnest of margins, the George Fox volleyball faithful decided to flip the script Friday night in Walla Walla in the first set. The first set had the entire formula for a Missionaries victory: a pair of aces by Whitman's Natalia Zea, and a handful of untimely errors by the Bruins. The set reached a 24-20 Whitman advantage. George Fox astoundingly fought back with four straight kills by four different players before putting the match away 26-24.
The momentum from the first set carried over and despite a 6 point run by the Missionaries, Danyle Dupray offset their team performance with 6 kills of her own in the set on the way to a 25-22 victory. The last set proved to be even easier than the first two, as the Bruins went on a 5-1 run to end out the set en route to a 25-20 victory.
Top Performers:
Danyle Dupray led the way with her 13 kills, while Erin Sprowls was just behind her with a solid 12. Defensive stalwarts Kelsey Meyers and Acarey Rosa both played pivotal rolls in the match, notching 19 and 14 digs respectively. Kelsey would lead the team with 2 aces.
What This Means:
The Bruins improve to 4-6 on the season and 1-2 in the Northwest Conference.
