NEWBERG, Ore. --- The Bruins dropped their season opener 3-0 on Friday night, despite creating a few open chances and the dogged play of senior goalkeeper Ally Swanson.
Game Recap:
Visiting Carleton College made the most of their set pieces, counting a penalty and a well-converted corner kick among their three goals. Caught slightly on their heels, the Bruins allowed all three goals in the first half before settling down and gamely pushing forward as they sharpened their play during the last forty-five.
How it Happened:
In the second minute, Connor Kasch's swerving corner found Edith Emmings, who snuck in her shot just beyond Swanson. The Bruins enjoyed a spell of possession, but found themselves down 2-0 in the 29th minute, when Hailey Muir sent in a cross that Megan King cooly dispatched. After Ava Lewis converted from the spot after a foul in the Bruins' box, the Bruins found themselves in a 3-0 hole at the break. Following halftime, the Bruins found more space in Carleton's half. Sarah Tuemmler got off a curling shot that was saved well by keeper Elaine Sundberg. Just before full time, Savannah Moisan rifled a shot that blazed just over the crossbar.
Top Performers:
Forward Hannah Harder impressed in her season debut for the Bruins, showing good movement and finding room to get off two shots. The aforementioned Moisan led the Bruins with three attempts. Brette Dodson and Tuemmler both had shots on frame. Swanson collected seven saves and did well to keep the Bruins in the match, patrolling her box authoritatively.
What Comes Next:
The loss means the Bruins are still in search of their opening win, but they'll have a chance Sunday night, when they host Wisconsin – Eau Claire at 6:00 p.m.
