Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. --- The No. 2-ranked George Fox women's basketball team completed the weekend sweep on Saturday, as the Bruins took down the visiting Lutes of Pacific Lutheran, 73-41.
Recap:
The Bruins came to play on Saturday, forcing the Lutes to turn the ball over 32 times in the 40 minutes of playing time. The defense again was the factor for the Bruins, as they caused havoc on the Lutes every second of the game.
In the first quarter, George Fox went back-and-forth with the Lutes for the first seven minutes, but opened up the scoring, closing out the quarter on an 8-0 run, 21-11. The momentum carried over into the second quarter, as the Bruins increased their lead to 17 at the 8:06 mark, 28-11. The Bruins ended the first half on a 13-3 run, taking a 23 point margin at the break, 41-18.
The second half settled down quite a bit, as both teams traded baskets the remainder of the game. With a comfortable distance, the Bruins closed out the game with the bench handling most of the responsibilities.
Top Performers:
For the second consecutive night, Justine Benner led the way with a game-high 18 points. Both Nicole Blizzard and Sammy Naluai added four assists each on their performance, and George Fox recorded 22 of their 28 baskets from assists. Kaitlin Jamieson provided a big boost in the middle of the paint, as she recorded five blocks on the night.
What It Means:
With the win, the Bruins improve to 13-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Northwest Conference. George Fox will enjoy a nice rest before they prepare for the big weekend next week.

The Bruins will host the No. 2 and No. 4 teams in the NWC, as both Whitman and Whitworth come into town for a big weekend. The Bruins host Whitman on Friday, Jan. 15 at 6:00 p.m., and Whitworth on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 4:00 p.m.
