NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's volleyball team hosted the Whitworth Pirates Friday evening in a Northwest Conference match-up. The Pirates downed the Bruins, 3-0.
Recap:
The beginning of the first set saw the two sides go back and forth exchanging points. Delaney Cruz assisted Danyle Dupray and Erin Sprowls on kills to get the Bruins within one, 8-7, but the Pirates dominated the middle of the set to the tune of a 19-12 lead. Erin Dellinger's kill sparked a 4-0 Bruin run, but it wasn't enough as Whitworth took set one, 25-20.
Set two was dominated by the Pirates from the beginning. Kills from Sarah Davies, Cruz and Dupray weren't enough to build momentum as the Pirates finished a 4-1 run to win the set 25-13.
In set three, Dellinger and Sprowls tallied kills early on as the Bruins kept pace with the Pirates. Whitworth responded with an 8-2 run of its own to take control of the set. Kills by Amy Massingale and Sprowls late in the set got the Bruins within a couple, but the Pirates were able to seal it 25-19.
Top Performers:
Dupray led the Bruins with six kills. Dellinger and Davies added four kills each, and Kelsea Meyers led with 11 digs.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins welcome Whitman College Saturday at 5p.m.
