NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's volleyball team was back in action Saturday afternoon, as the Bruins hosted the Whits of Whitman College in a close, hard fought match that resulted in a 3-0 loss.
Recap:
Early on, kills from Erin Sprowls and Danyle Dupray set an aggressive tone as the Bruins battled Whitman to a 9-9 tie. Delaney Cruz continued to attack and helped the Bruins grab the lead late in the set, 18-16. Whitman was able to put together a short run to grab the lead, 24-22, and the Bruins weren't able to rally as Whitman took the first set, 25-23.
Set two saw a similar start as the two teams battled to another 9-9 tie. Whitman tallied a few kills and took advantage of Bruin errors to jump out to a 16-11 lead. The Bruins responded quickly, going on a 7-3 run led by Erin Sprowls. Down 23-18, Cruz subbed in and tallied three straight kills to help tie the set, 23-23, but Whitman was able to grab the final two points to win set, 25-23.
The Bruins came out attacking in set three, grabbing a 10-5 lead. Whitman responded behind a string of kills as the Bruins went cold. Tied at 15-15, Whitman again put together a run to grab a four point lead. Dupray and Sprowls each had kills to get the Bruins within two, but it wasn't enough as Whitman closed out the third and final set, 25-22.
Top Performers:
Cruz led the way for the Bruins with 11 kills. Kelsea Meyers and Dupray were both strong defensively as each had a game-high 16 digs.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will be back in action Tuesday, Oct. 18 as they take on Multnomah Bible at 7p.m.
