Bruins Open Season With Win Over Lions

NEWBERG, Ore. --- The No. 6-ranked George Fox women's basketball team faced the Lions of Multnomah University Tuesday night, as the Bruins opened up their season with a 91-52 victory.

Recap:
The Bruins blitzed the Lions in the opening quarter, forcing the opposing team to turn the ball over nine times. Kimberly Frost led the way for the Bruins, as the senior guard scored the first four points of the game. Kaitlin Jamieson also got into the action early, scoring back-to-back layups to give the Bruins a 14-2 advantage. That lead increased to double digits four minutes later when Tavin Headings knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to put the Bruins up by 17, 29-12.

The Bruins ended the first quarter with a 22 point advantage, 34-12.

It was smooth sailing for the Bruins the rest of the game, as the team clicked on all cylinders. The Bruins bumped their lead up to 32, 49-17, after Frost made a nice steal and finished at the rim for the fast break layup.

George Fox went into the break up by 31, 56-25.

The Bruins continued their high powered shooting from beyond the arc in the third quarter, as Headings made her third and fourth 3-pointer in the early going. The freshman got into the mix at the end of the third, as Hailey Hartney, Ashley-Alohi Kiko, Emily Spencer and Kylin Collman and contributed on offense.

The Bruins closed out the game with a 39 point advantage. George Fox shot 45.1 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from the 3-point line and 80 percent from the stripe. The Bruins recorded 28 steals, which was one shy of tying the school record.

Top Performers:
Headings led all players with 16 points, shooting 4-9 from the 3-point line. She also added four steals to her performance. Frost finished with 13 points and a career-high in steals (7) and assists (7). Jamieson was the final Bruin to score in double figures with 11. Spencer led the bench with nine points, four rebounds and three steals.

What Comes Next:
The Bruins continue their play at home with a game against Northwest (Wash.) on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 6p.m.
