Bruins Close Out Final Game At Home Against Puget Sound

NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox Volleyball team took the court in Miller Gymnasium for the final time this season as they hosted Puget Sound in a five-set, back and forth match.

Recap:
Set one belonged to Puget Sound. While the two teams battled to a 6-6 tie, the Loggers went on a run to grab a commanding 18-11 lead. The Bruins were led by Danyle Dupray who had three kills in the set, but the Loggers proved too much for the Bruins as they took set one, 25-15. 

Set two saw the Loggers continue their momentum as the grabbed an early 10-3 lead. Back-to-back kills from Delaney Cruz kept the Bruins close, but the Loggers continued the pressure and were able to run their lead to 19-10. From there, the Bruins responded, going on a big 9-1 run. Kills by Sarah Davies, Cruz and Dupray led the charge for the Bruins as they rallied to bring the set to 20-19. The Loggers responded, however, finishing the set on a 5-1 run to take the second set 25-20. 

The Loggers dominated early in set three, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. The Bruins rallied and kept the score close, and down 17-10, went on a run to grab the lead. Kills by Cruz and Amy Massingale helped bring the Bruins back to make the score 17-16. The two teams continued to battle to a 27-27 tie, and this time it was the Bruins who finished the set strong, winning 30-28. 

The two sides continued their back and forth play into the fourth set. The Bruins got early kills from Alyssa Burch, Cruz, and Dupray to keep the Bruins in the set. Tied 10-10 the Loggers and Bruins traded points, and it was the Bruins who got the big kills from Davies and Erin Sprowls to capture set four and force a decisive fifth set. 

The Bruins hung tough in set five, keeping the Loggers in their sights as the two fought to a 3-3 tie. Unfortunately for the Bruins, it was Puget Sound who put together a run, grabbing a 10-4 lead that it wouldn't relinquish. Cruz and Dupray each had kills to try and keep the Bruins in it, but the Loggers were too much, winning set five, 15-9.

Top Performers:
Delaney Cruz led the Bruins with 15 kills, while Danyle Dupray added 12 kills and Sarah Davies added 10 kills of her own. Dupray was stellar defensively, leading the Bruins with 24 digs. Kelsea Meyers and Cruz each tallied 20 digs for the Bruins, who fought their way back to force a fifth set for the second time this season.

What Comes Next:
The Bruins will finish their season tomorrow on the road at Linfield. The match is set to begin 5 p.m.
