Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. --- It was another gutsy win for the No. 2/3-ranked George Fox women's basketball team, Saturday evening, as the Bruins beat the Missionaries of Whitman College, 68-61.
Recap:
The contest was close all the way through each quarter with the Missionaries hanging tough against the top-ranked Bruins. Both teams were productive from the start, and the score was tied six times during the first quarter. The Bruins opened up the second quarter of play with six straight points to take a 22-15 lead at the 8:44 mark. The lead grew to 10, 31-21, in favor of the Bruins with two minutes left in the first half after Kaycee Creech knocked down the deep three.
The Bruins went into the half with a seven point advantage, 31-24.
George Fox continued to keep the Missionaries at an arm's length throughout the third, using a couple of solid runs to increase their lead to double digits once again.
The fourth quarter showcased some great play from both teams, but it was the Bruins who remained on top and cruised to their seven point victory.
Top Performers:
Justine Benner was excellent for the Bruins squad, scoring 25 points in 34 minutes of play with six rebounds. Both Kim Frost and Sammy Naluai added nine apiece to the stat sheet for the Bruins.
What It Means:
The Bruins close out their final two-game road trip in the Northwest Conference with a win, and improve to 23-0 on the season and 14-0 in the NWC. Whitman falls to 16-6 and 9-5 in the NWC.
What Comes Next:
The final game of regular season play will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 16 when the Bruins host Willamette at 6:00 p.m. for senior night.
