Box Score WALLA WALLA, Ore. --- The George Fox women's volleyball team ran into a tough Whitman squad Saturday night, as the Bruins fell in straight-sets, 3-0.
Recap:
The opening set was an exciting one, as fans witnessed six ties between the Bruins and Whitman. The third tie of the set came after Danyle Dupray helped the Bruins climb out of a four point deficit. The score showed three more ties before Whitman broke away with four-straight points, 19-15. Whitman went on to take the first set, 25-19.
Set two was all Whitties, as they jumped out to a 9-1 lead. With momentum on their side and a cushion of a lead, the Whits took the second set, 25-14.
The final set was a different story for the Whits, as the Bruins gained confidence and held a 7-3 advantage early on. The Whits climbed back, though, and evened the set up at 10-10. A couple of ties transpired, and the set was close all the way till the end. In fact, the Bruins were within one after back-to-back service aces by Abby MacGregor, 23-22. The Whits responded with a big kill to go up by two, 24-22, and an attack error by the Bruins gave them the match.
Top Performers:
The Bruins were led by Erin Sprowls and Dupray, who both tallied six kills. Sprowls hit .200, while Dupray recorded a percentage of .167. Hanna Kumasaka led the team with 14 assists, and Kelsea Meyers led the team with 10 digs.
What It Means:
With the loss, the Bruins fall to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the Northwest Conference.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will stay on the road next week with a match against Lewis & Clark on Sept. 23 at 7p.m.
