NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's volleyball team hosted the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran Saturday evening, as the Bruins fell to the Lutes in four sets, 3-1.
Recap:
The opening set took the Bruins by surprise, as the Lutes jumped out to a quick 8-3 advantage. After settling in, the Bruins clawed back to within four at 14-10, but the Lutes managed to put together three-straight points to push the lead back to eight, 18-10. With the lead, the Lutes were able to secure the opening set victory by a score of 25-15.
The Bruins seemed to turn a corner in set two, though, scoring the first seven points of the set. With the 7-0 lead, the Bruins gained momentum, and kept the Lutes on their toes. The Lutes did their best to cut the deficit, but each time the Bruins responded with runs of their own. The Lutes did manage to tie the set up at 22-22 and 23-23, but a kill by Amy Massingale helped the Bruins retake the lead at 24-23. The next play resulted in an attack error by the Lutes, forcing the match to be tied at 1-1.
The Lutes responded in the third set, taking a 7-1 lead to open things up. The Bruins brought the set within two at 10-8, but the Lutes used an 8-1 run to separate from the Bruins at 18-9. With the lead out of reach, the Bruins fell in the third set, 25-14.
The fourth set was back and forth early on, but the Bruins weren't able to keep up with the Lutes after they jumped out to an 11-5 lead. That lead came after the Lutes scored six-straight points. The Lutes took the fourth set and the match with a 25-15 victory.
Top Performers:
Sarah Davies led the Bruins with 10 kills on the night, hitting .147. Hanna Kumasaka tallied 16 assists and 11 digs. Kelsea Meyers recorded a team-high 17 digs, while Alyssa Burch blocked five total balls.

The Bruins continue their home-stand with a match on Wednesday against the Boxers of Pacific at 7p.m.
