Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Calif. --- The George Fox women's volleyball team finished up their California road trip Saturday, as the Bruins faced off against Redlands and Occidental in the Pacific Coast Classic.
Recap:
Match One:
Sarah Davies and Delaney Cruz led the way for the Bruins against the Bulldogs, as they both finished with eight kills apiece. Redlands came out strong in the first set winning, 25-15, but the second set proved to be much tougher. The Bruins led for the first half of the set at 10-6, but the Bulldogs put together six-straight points to retake the lead, 12-10. The Bulldogs kept the lead for the remainder of the set, despite the Bruins trailing by just a couple of points.
Match Two:
The Bruins matched up against the Tigers in their final match of the tournament. The opening set was a tough one for the Bruins as they got off to a slow start. All of that changed in the second, though, as the Bruins found new life and jumped out to a 12-10 lead. The Tigers answered back and the fifth tie of the set came at 16-16 after a service error by the Bruins. The Tigers squeaked by with a 25-23 victory in the second.
The momentum continued for the Bruins in the third, scoring four straight points to tie the set up at 15-15. Points traded hands back and forth all the way up to 24-24, but the Tigers were able to secure two more kills to end the set at 26-24.
Top Performers:
Cruz led the Bruins on the day with 15 kills. Kelsea Meyers led the Bruins in digs with 25 on the day.
What It Means:
The Bruins finish the Pacific Coast Classic 1-3, but showed some spirit that should carry into Northwest Conference play.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins continue their nonconference schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 6, where they host their first match in Wheeler Sports Complex against Northwest Christian at 7p.m.
