NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's volleyball team hosted the Bearcats of Willamette University Friday night, as the Bruins fell to the Bearcats, 3-0.

Recap:
The Bruins started out strong in the opening set, taking a 7-1 lead that forced the Bearcats to take an early timeout. The timeout seemed to come at the right time, though, as the Bearcats went on a 13-2 run to take a 15-9 lead. The Bruins tried to climb back, but momentum turned to Willamette with a 26-16 first set victory.

Momentum stayed in favor for the Bearcats in the second set, as the visiting team crept away with an 8-3 lead. After the lead grew to 18-10, the Bruins started to cut the deficit with four-straight points. An unforced error seemed to spark the run as the Bruins scored points off back-to-back kills by Amy Massingale and Delaney Cruz. With the Bruins within five, 18-13, the Bearcats called for a timeout. The timeout sparked a 6-1 run by the Bearcats, who climbed to a 24-15 lead, but that didn't seem to scare the Bruins. The resiliency was shown in the final points, as the Bruins put the Bearcats on their heels. George Fox continued the fight, scoring five-straight points before the Bearcats secured the 25-20 win.

In the third set, the Bearcats rallied together a four point lead to go up by 9-5. The Bruins answered with four-straight points to record the first tie of the set at 9-9. Both teams traded points, but it was the Bearcats who came out the other end with a 12-1 run. Willamette completed the sweep with a 25-15 win in the third set.

Top Performers:
Cruz led the Bruins with nine kills on the night, hitting .222. Danyle Dupray tallied six kills and a team-high 17 digs. Hannah Kumasaka recorded a team-high 14 assists.

What Comes Next:
The Bruins hit the road Friday, Oct. 7, at 7p.m. against Puget Sound.
