NEWBERG, Ore. --- The Bruins opened up their first home game of the season against NCAA Division II Humboldt State in a narrow 1-0 loss, Sunday afternoon.

Recap:
Both teams tested the waters early in the opening half, but each side seemed prepared for one another. Possession changed throughout the first half as each team searched for a hole in the defense. The Jacks won the shots column going into the half, 5-2, but it was George Fox who had the best opportunity after Kayla Caldeira hit a curving ball into the corner. Jacks' goalkeeper Alex Dumas made a splendid diving save to keep the score tied at the break, 0-0.

Tension grew into the second half with each team knowing it was only time before a pass snuck through the back line. The Jacks had a free ball delivered close to the box in the 68th minute, and Bruin Savannah Sexton came in too hard drawing a foul and a yellow card. The card gave the Jacks an opportunity as the free kick was setup just outside the box. Bridget Daley's number was called for the Jacks, and she answered, bending the ball to the top left corner to give the Jacks a 1-0 lead.

The Bruins showed urgency in the coming minutes, as they looked for an equalizer.  George Fox had multiple opportunities down the stretch, but the score held firm at 1-0.

Top Performers:
Hannah Harder led the offense with two shots, one on goal. The efficiency from the Bruins was impressive, as four of their six shots were on frame. Emma Weme was huge for the Bruins on defense, causing havoc every time the Jacks made their way on offense. Morgan Bars and Kelsey Kammerzell split time in the net. Kammerzell recorded three saves.

What It Means:
This is the second game in a row for the Bruins losing by just one goal to a NCAA Div. II opponent.

What Comes Next:
The Bruins will take to the road next week when they play in California against Santa Cruz on Sept. 9 and Holy Names on Sept. 11.
