NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's volleyball team hosted the Northwest Christian Beacons Tuesday night in the Bruins' 2016 home opener.
Recap:
The Bruins got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the first set after a kill by Danyle Dupray and a block from Amy Massingale. The Beacons responded with three straight points that sparked a 7-1 run. The Bruins hung tough, but weren't able to keep pace with the Beacons, who ended the first set on a 9-0 run to take the first set 25-9.
In the second set, the Bruins got off to another fast start, jumping out to an 8-3 lead. After two blocks and a kill by Alyssa Burch, the Bruins took a 10-6 lead. Northwest Christian responded and the two teams went back and forth before the Beacons took their first lead, 16-15. Another kill by Dupray brought the Bruins within three, 20-17, but the Beacons took the set 25-20.
After falling early in the third, the Bruins battled back to tie the set up at 9-9. The two teams exchanged points, but the Bruins couldn't gain any momentum as the Beacons ended the set on a 12-5 run.
Top Performers:
The Bruins were led by sophomore Danyle Dupray, who finished the match with six kills. Amy Massignale and Delaney Cruz finished with 5 kills apiece, while Kelsea Meyers led the Bruins in digs with 12.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins continue the home court advantage with another match on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1p.m. against Simpson.
