NEWBERG, Ore. --- The No. 20-ranked George Fox women's basketball team kicked off the New Year with a bang Tuesday night, as the Bruins beat the Pioneers of Lewis & Clark College, 79-61.
Recap:
The Bruins' offense was unstoppable in the first quarter, jumping out to a huge 27-6 lead behind a balanced scoring effort.
The home team was able to capitalize on the momentum through the second quarter, shooting an effective 46 percent from the field while holding the Pioneers to 26 percent shooting. Tavin Headings and Bailey McDevitt found their range through the first half, both hitting two-for-three from behind the arc.
The Bruins entered the half with a 41-19 lead.
The second half turned out to be much of the same story as the home team continued to pad the lead through the final two quarters.
The high-powered George Fox offense shot a blistering 58 percent from beyond the arc, while moving the ball effectively to the tune of 17 assists.
Top Performers:
McDevitt led the team in scoring with a career-high 15 points, while shooting 6-9 from the field and 3-4 from beyond the arc. Kaitlin Jamieson continued to be a menace around the rim, recording four blocks in the contest. Kimberly Frost harassed opposing ball-handlers through the game, managing to tally five steals. Frost is now ninth All-Time in Career Steals at George Fox with 178.
What It Means:
With the win, the Bruins improve to 10-2 on the season and 2-1 in the NWC.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins travel to Washington to take on Pacific Lutheran Friday, January 6, in a conference matchup set for 6:00pm.
