PORTLAND, Ore. --- The George Fox Volleyball team took a break from Northwest Conference play to battle Multnomah University in a four set match Tuesday night.
Recap:
The Lions and Bruins began set one in a back and forth affair as neither team was able to take control of the match. Liv Alexander and Delaney Cruz got the Bruins going early with kills to give their team an early 7-4 lead. The Lions responded, taking an 8-7 advantage after a 4-0 run.
The Bruins and Lions continued to battle for control as the two found themselves at tied at 17-17. Alexander and Cruz continued to carry the Bruins as they captured momentum and won the first set 25-22.
The Bruins found themselves in a hole to begin set two after Multnomah raced out to a 6-2 lead. Alexander, Cruz and Laney Search keep the Bruins within striking distance but the Lions proved too much to handle in the second set, winning 25-20 to even the match at one.
Multnomah began the third set with authority, riding momentum to a 11-4 advantage. Alexander continued her excellent play keeping the Bruins close, but Multnomah kept the pressure on taking a 20-15 lead late. A kill by Alyssa Burch kept the Bruins within five, but the Lions proved to be too much to handle as they took set three 25-19.
In set four, the Lions came out focused knowing they needed just once set to finish off the victory. The Bruins kept the set close, trailing 14-11 halfway through the pivotal set. Sydney Amundsen kept the set close with a kill to cut the lead to 21-19, but the Lions proved to be too much to handle, taking set four 25-20 and the match 3-1.
Top Performers:
Alexander led the Bruins with 14 kills, followed but Cruz with 12 kills of her own. Madison Ross turned in a solid performance with 26 assists while Sophia Lawrence was stellar with a team-high 27 digs.
What It Means:
The Bruins fall to 6-8 overall.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins are back in action against Puget Sound on Friday in Tacoma. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
