Bruins End Season With Win Over Loggers

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. --- The George Fox football team finished off its season on a high note Saturday afternoon, as the Bruins beat the Loggers of Puget Sound, 21-7.

Recap:

The first quarter was a bit of a standstill with both teams figuring each other out. In fact, special teams played a big part in the first quarter as both teams used their punters as their best offensive weapons.

After a scoreless first, the Bruins finally broke through at the start of the second quarter. The Loggers decided to go for it on a fourth-and-3, but Caleb Dalzell sacked Loggers' Tanner Diebold for a 9-yard loss. The Bruins started their drive on the Puget Sound 43-yardline, and Grant Schroeder completed a 37-yard pass to Lane Hadley to keep the momentum going. Wesley Riddell finished off the final touches with a 6-yard run to give the Bruins a 7-0 lead.

The Bruins' defense was stellar in the first half, recording an interception, two sacks and a firm hold on the game. George Fox went into the half with a 7-0 advantage.

After the break, the Loggers found a little wiggle room with a 1-yard touchdown to tie the game up at 7-7.

George Fox responded two minutes later after Brad Lander beat his defender deep to record a 47-yard touchdown pass from Schroeder. The scoring continued for the Bruins in the third quarter, but this time it was the trusty hands of James Nguyen, who scored on a 34-yard touchdown pass.

The fourth quarter was locked up by the Bruins' defense, who forced three turnover on downs by the Loggers.

The Bruins finished the game with 320 yards of total offense with a pretty even game plan, as 166 yards came from the air and 154 came on the ground.

Top Performers:

Charles Riga led the Bruins' defense with 14 tackles, two sacks and four tackles for a loss. The secondary was spectacular, as Rudy Hughes grabbed 10 tackles and two broken up passes, while Austin Taylor recorded nine tackles, an interception and five broken up passes. Caleb Harrell recoded a team-high six broken up passes with six tackles.

Jacob Swilley and Wesley Riddell led the ground game with 67 and 60 yards, respectively. Lane Hadley finished with a team-high five catches for 67 yards, while both Lander and Nguyen found the end zone on one catch a piece. Schroeder went 10-25 with 166 yards and two touchdowns.
