The George Fox women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season Saturday night, sweeping the Willamette Bearcats on the road.

The Bruins and Bearcats spent the first set battling back and forth. Multiple players recorded kills early for the Bruins, who saw an 11-7 lead erased by the relentless Bearcats. With a narrow 17-16 lead, Alyssa Burch helped power the Bruins on a 5-0 run to take a late 21-17 lead. Danyle Dupray and Laney Search recorded kills to further extend the lead and Burch put the finishing touches on an opening set victory, 25-22.

The second set belonged to the Bruins after a hot start gave them an early 12-6 advantage. Dupray continued to power the Bruins, who racked up 15 team kills in the second set. Leading 23-18, Burch and Dupray recorded kills to give the Bruins the second set, 25-16.

The final set of the night was dominated by the Bruins, who raced out to a 7-0 lead. The Bearcats were able to cut the lead to 15-10, but back to back kills by  Ashtyn Butler helped regain momentum and put the match out of reach. Needing just one point to seal the deal, Burch came up big again with a block to secure the final set victory 25-18 and the sweep.

Top Performers

Dupray led the way for the Bruins with 13 kills and was complimented by the strong performance by Burch, who added 10 kills of her own. Search and Madison Ross combined for 36 assists while Sophia Lawrence led the way defensively with a team-high 16 digs.

What It Means

With the win, the Bruins finish the regular season with an overall record of 9-11 and 8-8 mark in NWC play.
