NEWBERG, Ore. --- The No. 25-ranked George Fox women's basketball team went on a tear Saturday evening, beating the visiting Lutes of Pacific Lutheran, 78-51.

Recap:
The opening quarter was highly competitive, as the Lutes matched the Bruins shot for shot. In fact, the Lutes jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening minutes, and the first tie didn't happen until 1:55 was left in the first quarter at 10-10. The Bruins took the upper hand, though, ending the first quarter with a one point lead, 13-12.

The Bruins expanded on their lead in the second quarter, using a 9-2 run to take a 22-14 lead after two minutes of play. The Lutes weren't afraid of the challenge, answering with a run of their own to bring the score within three at the 5:42 mark, 25-22. Kaitlin Jamieson helped the Bruins end the first half with a lead, as the junior forward recorded 11 points after two quarters.

George Fox went into the break with a five point advantage, 32-27.

The second half was a different story for the Bruins, who were exceptional in the final 20 minutes of play. Tavin Headings gave the Bruins their first double digit lead late in the third quarter after hitting a deep three at the top of the key, 50-40. Headings was at it again from beyond the arc a minute later, giving the Bruins a 55-40 lead to end the third quarter.

The Bruins kept the throttle down in the fourth, improving their lead to 18 on a Jamieson layup, 58-40. George Fox ended the final quarter out-scoring the Lutes, 23-11.

The Bruins dominated the boards, recording 43 rebounds to the Lutes 29.

Top Performers:
Jamieson was four points shy of tying her career-high with 23 on the night. She also recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds in her 27 minutes of play. Kimberly Frost finished with six points and nine assists.

What It Means:
The Bruins improve to 17-4 on the season and 9-3 in the Northwest Conference.

What Comes Next:
The Bruins are back in action Friday, Feb. 10, at Linfield with tipoff set for 6p.m.
