NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox men's tennis team ran into a tough Boxer squad Sunday, as the Bruins dropped a 7-2 decision to Pacific University.
Recap:
The Boxers were quick to jump on the Bruins in doubles, taking all three points. The closest match came at No. 1 doubles, as Spencer Watanabe and Alex Namba fell in a tightly contested match, 8-6.
The Bruins were able to grab a point at No. 1 singles after Watanabe was a force. The junior All-American won his match 6-3, 6-4, and improves his No. 1 singles record to 14-1 on the season. He is a perfect 10-0 when it comes to Northwest Conference play.
Alex Namba was the other Bruin to secure a point at No. 2 singles. Namba had a gritty match with a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4) win over Josh Bernstein. He is now 7-3 when it comes to conference play in singles.
What It Means:
The Bruins are now 8-7 on the season and 6-4 in the NWC. They are currently fourth in the NWC standings with a one match lead over Linfield and Whitworth.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will host the top team in the NWC Saturday, April 15, as the Whitman Blues come to town. The match is set to start at 1p.m.
