By: Alex Plusquellec

NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's volleyball team picked up its first conference victory of the season Wednesday night in four sets over Lewis and Clark College (21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18).

Recap:

The Bruins and Pioneers began the first set neck and neck, locked at 6-6 after an attack error by Lewis and Clark. From that point, the Pioneers began a 5-2 run to take a 13-8 lead at the halfway point of the set.

Three kills by Danyle Dupray kept the Bruins within two late into the set. Laney Search got involved with a kill on an assist from Sophia Lawrence for the Bruins 18th point, but Lewis and Clark tallied two aces down the stretch to take set one 25-21.

In set two, the Bruins got a kill from Search and an ace from Dupray to gain an early advantage. After the Pioneers responded, the Bruins put together a nice 5-0 run to regain the lead at 13-8. Despite the efforts of the Pioneers to rally, Dupray and teammate Delaney Cruz were too much to handle as the Bruins captured set two 25-21.

The third set started the same way as the prior sets and again it was George Fox who seized control. Trailing 11-9, the Bruins rattled off seven-straight points, a combination of miscues by the Pioneers and another kill by Search. As the set wore on the Bruins would not relinquish the lead behind the continued strong play of Search. The Bruins snagged set three 25-19.

Looking to make set four the final set of the evening, the Bruins took control from the outset. Cruz powered the Bruins early as she racked up four of the first seven points. Dupray and Search added kills as well and George Fox built a late six point lead. Ashtyn Butler's kill gave the Bruins the match point advantage and Dupray finished it off, giving the Bruins the fourth set 25-18.

Top Performers:

Dupray finished with a season-high 15 kills for the Bruins. Cruz and Search also had big nights as they tallied 14 and 12 kills respectively. The Bruins solid defense was led by Sophia Lawrence whose 18 digs were a team high. Madison Ross led the Bruins with 24 assists.
