NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's volleyball team took the court Saturday looking to build momentum after starting the season off with a win. The Bruins hosted Augsburg and Gustavus Adolphus in a double header, falling short in both matches.

Recap:

Match One:

Augsburg began set one on a 6-2 run and carried momentum late into the set. Kills by Delaney Cruz, Alyssa Burch and Danyle Dupray tried to keep the Bruins within striking distance, but it was not enough. Augsburg took set one 25-14.

The Bruins responded well in set two, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead after a kill by Stacy Kozlowski and an error by Augsburg. Augsburg responded with a run of their own and the two teams found themselves tied at 6-6.

After a pair of aces by Dupray and Sophie Lawrence and kill by Laney Search the Bruins grabbed the lead at 11-7, forcing an Augsburg timeout. The timeout proved to be a pivotal moment in the set as Augsburg produced an 8-3 run to swing momentum and give the visitors the lead. The Bruins clawed their way back, tying the set at 21-21 after a kill by Liv Alexander. After taking a 24-22 lead the Bruins weren't able to hang on as Augsburg scored four straight to take the set 26-24.

Stacy Kozlowski began the third set with three straight kills to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead but again Augsburg responded to take an 8-4 lead. Burch attempted to rally the Bruins with a couple of kills late, but Augsburg finished the set strong winning 25-17

Match Two:

The Bruins started off their second match of the day against No. 24 Gustavus Adolphus on a 4-1 run in the first set. Adolphus then found their groove and was to grab a lead halfway through the set. Down 13-11, a service ace from Kate Holtan regain the lead from the Bruins 15-14.

Down the stretch however it was Adolphus who got the kills necessary to pull away as they took set one 25-20.

Adolphus got off to a hot start in set number two, jumping out a big 12-4 lead. From there the two teams traded kills and despite the efforts from Burch, Dupray and Ashtyn Butler the Bruins weren't able to rally as Adolphus took set two 25-15.

Set three did not go the way of the Bruins as Adolphus jumped out to another big lead. Lexie Zuercher recorded two kills in a four point span but Adolphus proved to be too much as they took set three 25-10.
