Bruins Take Down 'Cats On The Road

Box Score

By: Jake Bienvenue

McMinnvillle, Ore. --- The George Fox women's volleyball team earned a huge win on the road Saturday night against conference-rival Linfield College in four sets (25-23, 26-24, 27-29, 25-20).

Recap:

The first set opened up neck-and-neck as the teams struggled to take the lead behind kills on both sides. Down 13-10, the Bruins went on an eight-point run on the back of three kills from Danyle Dupray.

A late run by the Wildcats wasn't enough to take the first set from the Bruins as they racked up the win.

The second set opened similar to the first as the teams remained close through the first 10 points. However, a 10-5 run by the Bruins put them up six, 17-11.

A 5-0 run by the Wildcats tied the score at 20 as both teams looked for the win in the crucial set. Two kills by Dupray and two aces by Madison Ross were too much for Linfield as the Bruins won a tough-fought second set.

The Bruins found themselves tied 10-10 in the second set before putting together a 7-2 run to gain the lead behind kills from Delaney Cruz, Dupray, Laney Search and Alyssa Burch.

Despite the great play by the Bruins, the Wildcats managed to prolong the inevitable with a nail-biting win in set three.

Dupray caught on fire in the fourth set, leading the Bruins on a critical 11-2 run to open play. It didn't stop there, however, as George Fox put together an astounding team-effort to not only keep but further the lead, 20-10.

The Bruins stymied a late run by the Wildcats to win the fourth and final set, 25-20.

Top Performers:

Dupray was transcendent on Saturday, finishing with a whopping career-high 23 kills. Cruz and Ashtyn Butler had tremendous games as well, tallying 14 and 10 kills respectively. The defense was anchored by Sophia Lawrence with 22 digs, while Dupray contributed on that end as well with 20. Search provided the pillar for the team, registering a beautiful 37 assists.

What It Means:

The Bruins move to 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins host Whitman on Friday in a conference matchup set for 7:00pm.
