PORTLAND, Ore. --- The No. 22-ranked George Fox women's basketball team took on Lewis & Clark on the road Saturday, winning the conference matchup easily, 80-58.
Recap:
The opening minutes of the first period were competitive, seeing the two teams tied at seven apiece with 4:30 remaining. The Bruins finished the quarter with a 10-4 run to steal the early lead.
Haylee Hutzler struck from deep at the beginning of the second quarter to give the Bruins a 20-11 lead as well as the momentum. From there, the high-powered George Fox offense began firing on all cylinders, going on a 16-2 run on the back of hot shooting from beyond the arc as well as in the painted area. They held the Pios' offense to just six points in the second quarter, holding a 38-17 lead heading into the break.
Hutzler kept it going in the third quarter, scoring five points in the first couple minutes to keep the Pios at bay. The Bruin offense held control throughout, holding a comfortable 59-42 lead heading into the final period of play.
Haley Strowbridge joined along with Hutzler as the offensive spark plugs for the Bruins in the fourth quarter, helping lead the team to a comfortable 80-58 win. Strowbridge had 10 points in the final half alone, while Hutzler pitched in nine.
Top Performers:
Hutzler and Strowbridge both reached career-highs Saturday night, tallying 21 and 16, respectively. Kaitlin Jamieson and Madison Hull found their way into double-digits as well, as Jamieson had 11 points to go along with nine boards while Hull pitched in 10 points of her own.
What It Means:
The Bruins move to 7-1 in Northwest Conference play and 14-3 on the season after tonight's victory.
