NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's soccer team hosted the Whitman Blues in the final game of the 2018 season, winning a thriller in front of the home crowd, 1-0, to send out their three seniors on a high note.

Recap:

The Bruins had their first cluster of chances around the 13-minute mark. Amy Hatter had a shot which missed just wide, then Savannah Moisan had a header shot which led to a corner kick. Courtney Denn had a shot just after which missed wide.

The pressure helped lead to more chances for the Bruins around the 21-minute mark. Three shots, one of which was on frame, kept the Bruins on Whitman's side of the field.

The Bruins dominated on the offensive end in the first half, outshooting the Blues 14-4 and 5-1 in shots on target.

George Fox came out aggressive in the second half as well. Julianne Hutley put a shot on frame in the 51st minute to spark the Bruins to another dominant period of play.

The Bruins outshot Whitman 13-3 in the second half. Their offensive output prevented the Blues from setting up their own attack.

In the last minute of the game and the season, Madison Huesers took a shot which deflected off the post. Chloe Shumaker was there for the rebound, burying the ball into the back of the net to win the game with less than ten seconds left in regulation in front of the home crowd.

Top Performers:

Shumaker led the Bruins with four shots and a goal. Brittany Bravo contributed four shots and Pilialoha Ahina registered three to contribute to the Bruins offensive explosion. Despite playing with only two of its standard starting four, the Bruins' back line held the Blues to just two shots on goal, which Brooke Jones and Annalisa Klein collected for a shared shutout.

What It Means:

The Bruins finish the season with a record of 7-9-2 overall and 5-9-2 in conference play. They say goodbye to seniors Moisan, Kelsey Kammerzell, and Jayli Miyamoto with a victory in their final game as Bruins.
