CLAREMONT --- The No. 10-ranked George Fox women's basketball team traveled to California to kick off its season, beating Pomona-Pitzer, 81-67.

Matney Jamieson got the first bucket of the 2018-2019 season for the Bruins, hitting a layup just thirteen seconds into play.
Senior Tavin Headings hit a layup and a three for five quick points to give the Bruins a 7-4 lead with 6:24 left in the first quarter.
George Fox edged out Pomona-Pitzer 17-15 in the first quarter on the back of six points from Emily Holder.
The Sagehens and the Bruins sparred through the opening part of the second quarter. The sides were tied at 23-23 with just over seven minutes left, then Pomona-Pitzer pulled off a 13-4 run to finish off the quarter, taking a 36-27 lead heading into the halftime break.
The Bruins came out of the locker room rejuvenated, clawing their way back into the game with a 45-44 lead with just over two minutes left in the quarter. Holder was a force for George Fox, rattling off ten points in the third quarter of play. They held a narrow 51-49 heading into the final stretch.
Hailey Hartney and Holder got the scoring going for the Bruins in the fourth quarter, combining for a quick seven points to spark George Fox to a strong finish in front of the home fans.
A host of Bruins contributed to the home team pulling away at the end, outscoring Pomona-Pitzer, 30-18, in the fourth quarter to secure a solid 81-67 victory to kick off the season.
Top Performers:
Holder was a spark plug off the bench, setting a new career-high in points and tying her career high in rebounds. She finished with 23 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Three other Bruins registered double-digit points. Emily Spencer poured in 12 points, five assists, four rebounds, and a whopping seven steals. Hartney had 12 points and six rebounds, and Jamieson had ten points.
What It Means:
The Bruins start their season at 1-0 for the sixth straight year.
