Bruins Fall In Top-Ranked NWC Showdown

BEAVERTON --- It was a Northwest Conference showdown Sunday, as the No. 34-ranked George Fox men's tennis team hosted the No. 33-ranked Lewis & Clark Pioneers in a tough 7-2 loss.

Recap:

The top-ranked match kicked off with doubles play. The Pioneers were able to make the most of doubles action, as they swept all three spots. Spencer Watanabe and William Leach battled hard at the No. 1 spot, but fell in a back and forth 8-6 match. Alex Namba and Payton Namba also had a hard-fought battle with an 8-6 loss at the No. 2 spot.

Trailing 3-0 heading into singles, the Bruins weren't going to go down easy. The Pios were able to secure the match after victories at the No. 3 and No. 1 spot, but William Leach put the Bruins on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. Payton Namba was also the other Bruin to grab a win, taking his match at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 7-6.

What It Means:

The Bruins fall to 7-2 on the season and 3-2 in the NWC.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins will hit the road and travel to California next week. The first match is against Whittier Friday, March 23 at 10 am.
