Bruins Earn Decisive Win Over Sagehens

Box Score

CLAREMONT --- The George Fox football team made the most of its first meeting with the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Saturday evening, as the Bruins came away with a decisive 40-6 victory.

Recap:

In this first-ever meeting between the two teams, the Bruins wasted no time showcasing their dominance. Daniel Campos made the first of four Bruin interceptions on the night, recording the lone pick-six and the Bruins first points of the game.

With the early 7-0 lead it was George Fox in the driver seat.

The Sagehens went on the move soon after, though, moving the ball 65 yards on eight plays midway through the first quarter. Pomona-Pitzer found itself in the red zone with a second and 15, but Austin Shadbolt had other plans. The junior linebacker recorded the Bruins' second interception and went 78 yards before being brought to the ground. Unable to make the most of it on the offensive side of the ball, the Bruins' defense stepped up again, this time with a Caleb Harrel interception on Pomona's 35-yard line. With momentum now fully on George Fox's side, freshman quarterback Jaden Sheffey kept the ball on the ground with a 40-yard touchdown run.

The Bruins ended the first quarter with a 13-3 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer connected on its second and final field goal of the night from 21-yards to bring the score to 13-6 in favor of George Fox.

The rest of the game was all George Fox. Sheffey again used his feet to find the end zone with a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Bruins a 19-6 lead. That score wouldn't change as both teams went into the half.

The second half was all George Fox, as the defense continued to give the Bruins great field position. Late through the third quarter, Sheffey and company marched down the field for 37-yards that resulted in Sheffey's third touchdown at the goal line. The ground game was a big factor for the Bruins all night, as senior running back Wesley Riddell got in on the action with a 2-yard touchdown run to close out the quarter.

The Bruins entered the final quarter of play with a 33-6 lead.

The Sagehens did their best to claw back into the game, but the Bruins' defense had an answer for every possession. Josh Kibbey sealed the deal for the Bruins with their sixth touchdown of the night after a 1-yard run.

The Bruins finished the night with 360 total yards of offense. The ground crew racked up 232 yards – marking the most thus far on the season. This also marked the second straight game the Bruins finished with at least four interceptions.

Top Performers:

Jaden Sheffey led the offense, going 6-8 in the air for 95 yards and 101 yards on the ground with three touchdowns. As for the defense, Lucas Schwin, Daniel Campos and Charles Riga led the squad with seven tackles each.
