Box Score

By: Jake Bienvenue

SALEM --- The George Fox women's soccer team took on Willamette on the road on Sunday, losing a close one, 2-1.

Recap:

The first portion of the first half was a back-and-forth affair as both teams looked to score, but it was the Bearcats who struck first, netting a goal around the 39-minute mark to take the early lead.

Annalisa Klein was an anchor in goal for the Bruins, saving a whopping four shots in just the first 38 minutes.

The Bruins regrouped at the half and came out strong, finding the back of the net in the 55th minute to tie the game. Savannah Sexton scored her first goal of the season and it was a beauty. She sent a howler from thirty-yards out that sailed just over the keeper and into the right corner, 1-1.

The game continued to be competitive from that point on, but it was Willamette who managed to score in the 80th minute and steal the game, 2-1.

Top Performers:

Sexton was the Bruin who found pay dirt in this one, but Courtney Denn and Abby Anderson contributed on the offensive end as well, tallying two shots apiece. Klein played well in goal, saving five shots in ninety minutes of play.

What It Means:

The Bruins move to 1-2-1 in conference play and 3-2-1 overall.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins will face Lewis & Clark on the road on Wednesday at 7:00pm.
