Bruins Explode In Big Win Over Boxers

NEWBERG --- The George Fox men's basketball team hosted Pacific University in a Saturday evening Northwest Conference showdown, winning in dominant fashion and setting records in the process, 122-93.

Recap:

Mason Green-Richards and Wesley Reynolds got it going early, scoring the Bruins' first nine points of the contest.

George Fox jumped all over the Boxers early, securing a commanding 32-14 lead with just under 10 minutes left in the half. JD Ahlstrom and Levi Dalzell were key contributors in the opening stretch, combining for 11 points.

The Bruin offense exploded in the first half, scoring 59 points on an all-around team effort. Reynolds and Ryan Lacey had nine points while Ahlstrom and Dalzell each had eight. Green-Richards dished out six assists to help power the offense.

The Boxers capped off the first half on a 6-0 run to set the score at 59-38 heading into the break.

The teams traded buckets to start out the second half, each scoring five quick points, setting the score at 64-43.

With around 15 minutes left in the game, Lacey scored five quick points to keep the Bruin lead secure. The effort continued the offensive dominance for George Fox, and after eight minutes of play in the second half, the Bruins led by 30 points, 86-55.

The home team kept on the gas pedal through the remainder of the game, overwhelming Pacific with a deluge of offense. With around six minutes left, the Bruins hit three straight deep balls to keep the game way out of reach.

Green-Richards and Lacey took over in the second half. Green-Richards went a scorching 3-4 from deep and 5-6 from the field for 13 points, and Lacey had 15 points on 4-6 shooting to go along with four assists and four rebounds.

The Bruins hung an absurd 122 points on the Boxers in this one, winning handily to give head coach Maco Hamilton the best conference start in his tenure at 4-0.

The George Fox offense could not be stopped as they steamrolled its way to the fifth highest score in program history. The explosion was a complete team effort, as everyone who played scored, and six players found their way into double-digits.

Top Performers:

Lacey led the way with 24 points, tying his career-high, to go along with seven assists a career-high, while going a perfect 11-11 from the charity stripe. Green-Richards had 18 points on a scorching 4-5 from deep and eight assists. Reynolds had 17 points, a career-high, and eight rebounds. Dalzell had 14 points, a career-high, and Kalu Stricklin and Ahlstrom both had 12.

What It Means:

The Bruins open up conference play a perfect 4-0 while moving to 10-3 on the season.

 

What Comes Next:

The Bruins host No. 9 Whitworth on Friday, January 11, in a conference matchup set for 8:00 pm.
