NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's basketball team cruised to an easy non-conference win over Pomona-Pitzer at home on Saturday afternoon with a 79-59 win. The Bruins struggled out of the gate but used a strong shooting game to take control and win in dominant fashion over the visiting Sagehens.

George Fox started off slow in the contest, allowing the Sagehens to get out to a quick 8-0 lead. After the Sagehens looked like they wanted to make the contest a battle, the Bruins reeled off a strong 30-10 run over the next 15 minutes to put themselves firmly in control of the game.

George Fox took a 35-20 lead into the half behind the strong scoring run. Emily Holder and Hailey Hartney each had 11 points as the game went into halftime.

The Bruins came out firing in the second half, as they scored 32 points in the third quarter to take a 67-35 lead into the closing period and went to the bench after that. George Fox went 13-for-17 from the field in the third quarter including 5-for-7 from outside the arc, led by Kaylee Bishop's eight points, to really pour it on against Pomona-Pitzer.

The Bruins bench unit served its purpose of running out the clock and preserving the lead, but only scored 12 points in the final frame for a final score of 79-59 to seal the George Fox win.

Top Performers

Bishop, Posey, Holder, and Hartney all finished with 11 points in the game to lead the Bruins in scoring. Posey also had a team high six rebounds and four other Bruins registered five boards. Emily Spencer had three assists to go along with nine points in the win.

What it Means

George Fox got a much-needed win in the home opener and is now winner of back-to-back games to sit at 2-1 on the season.

George Fox will host UC Santa Cruz on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 1:00 PM in Wheeler Sports Center.
