By: Jake Bienvenue

FOREST GROVE --- The No. 14-ranked George Fox women's basketball team took on the Boxers of Pacific University on Friday, earning a solid road victory over their conference opponents, 70-57.

Recap:

The Bruins had their jumpers dialed in early, going up 6-1 before Hailey Hartney and Haylee Hutzler hit back-to-back threes in only 11 seconds. The effort put the Bruins up 12-1 with a little under five minutes remaining in the first quarter.

The Boxers closed out the opening frame with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to just six heading into the second quarter.

They stayed on the gas pedal in the second, going on another 7-0 run to take the lead, 13-12.

Matney Jamieson scored three quick points to spark the Bruins to a run of their own, rattling off seven straight to take a 19-13 lead with just over four minutes left in the half.

The Boxers battled their way back into the game, and the sides traded buckets down the stretch to keep the contest competitive.

The Bruins were able to get to the charity stripe seemingly at will, making nine free throws in the final two minutes to take the lead heading into the break, 31-23.

They shot an astounding 13-14 from the line in the first half.

In the third quarter, the Bruins managed to keep the momentum in their favor by going shot-for-shot with the Boxers. A good example of this happened around the six-minute mark. Pacific dribbled down and hit a three, then Madison Hull responded with a three on the next possession.

The shot helped the Bruins to finish the quarter on an 11-5 run, setting the score at 49-39 heading into the final period. They shot an outrageous 70% from the field in the third.

The Bruins kept their foot on the gas pedal, starting off the fourth with a 10-3 run.

The Boxers scored five straight to cut the lead to 12, but George Fox continued to hit shots that prevented Pacific from getting into an offensive groove. They outscored the opposition 21-18, missing only two shots, to take home the solid victory, 70-57.
