Bruins Stay Hot With Win Over Majors

Box Score

DEMOREST --- A seven-run inning in the bottom of the second all but sealed the deal for the George Fox baseball team on Friday, as the Bruins won the neutral site game against Millsaps, 12-3.

Recap:

Christopher Stone made his second start for the Bruins on the bump and dealt with some adversity in the top of the first. A pair of hits led to the Majors taking a 1-0 lead, but Stone took it upon himself to get the Bruins out of the inning. All three outs came by way of strikeout.

The Bruins' bats provided some momentum in the bottom of the second, recording five hits for seven runs to take a 7-2 lead. Sam Swenson reached first on an error and Trevor Nannini laid down a successful bunt to reach first safely. Jerred Seamons recorded his first home run of the season with a three-RBI shot to left field. Derek Johnson kept the inning going with a double and Matt Voelzke hit a sacrifice fly to put Johnson on third. Jason Garcia scored Johnson on the next at-bat with a single, but Kyler Brudwick ended the inning with a two-RBI home run to give the Bruins a five-run advantage, 7-2.

After a pair of scoreless innings in the third and fourth, the Majors scratched another run across home plate to keep things interesting. With a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth, Swenson took it upon himself to help put the game away. The junior first basemen drilled a double to right field, scoring Garcia and Brudwick. After the two-RBI double by Swenson, Nannini hit a double moving Swenson to third, and Seamons drew a walk to load the bases. Matt Ramirez and Colby Watilo drove in one run each to give the Bruins an 11-3 lead.

Stone earned his second win of the season, going six innings for the Bruins with six strikeouts. After Stone's departure, Isaac Olson, Zach Stouder, and Bradley Emmens pitched an inning each to keep the Majors scoreless in the later innings.

The Bruins grabbed one more insurance run in the eighth after Swenson recorded his third RBI of the game.
