NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox Bruins handed the Whitman Blues one of only three defeats on the season two weeks ago in Walla Walla. The Blues came into Newberg Sunday with revenge on their minds and left town with a 4-0 victory.
How it Happened
The Blues outshot George Fox 11-0 in the first half but had just an own-goal to show for it by halftime. A tremendous leaping tip save over the bar by Bruin goalkeeper
Julian Ramirez led to a Whitman corner kick. Oscar Harding placed the kick into the 6-yard box, where McCoy Hennes sent a header toward the left post. An attempted clear by a Bruin defender sent the ball into goal in the 10th minute and Whitman carried a 1-0 lead to halftime.
The Bruins created their best scoring opportunity in the 58th minute when
Sean Beuckens got a strong shot off from close range that Whitman keeper Colby Ramsey parried away with a quick reaction.
Solek Ashkinos attempted a follow-up, but it deflected off a Blue defender out of harm's way. Just two minutes later the Bruins drew a foul just outside the Whitman penalty area.
Alan Rincón attempted to bend a free-kick inside the far post, but Ramsey was there to swallow it up.
Shortly afterward, the Blues found the back of the net three times in a span of eight minutes and secured their third consecutive win since falling to George Fox. Rowan Calvert struck first, powering a shot into the upper right off a short cross from Riley Kraft. Jacob Burrill followed with a goal in the 68th minute. Just over a minute later, Zachary Stonier sent a through-ball to Noa Taylor, who chipped a shot over Ramirez after the Fox keeper charged off his line.
The Blues finished with a 23-4 advantage in shots, putting 15 on frame to improve their overall record to 10-3.
