SPOKANE, Wash. --- The George Fox women's soccer program wrapped up its annual 'Whits' trip with a hard-fought 2-0 loss to the Pirates on Sunday, Oct. 31.
How It Happened
The Pirates got the first shots off of the match and capitalized on their early momentum with a goal in the 17th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Willa Evans tested the Whitworth keeper a minute later, but the shot was saved. Trinity Carrington, Madison Burch, and Maggee Hodgdon each tried their luck as well but the shots were all turned away by the Pirates' netminder. Sara Thudium was called on to make two more saves in the first half after the early goal and was up to the task to preserve the 1-0 score at the break.
Both sides battled through the second half with no additional scores until the 84th minute of action. A free kick led to a Whitworth scoring chance and the Pirates capitalized on the opportunity for the 2-0 lead with six minutes left and held on for a shutout win in regulation.
