Box Score TACOMA, Wash. — The George Fox volleyball team went the distance with Northwest Conference foe Puget Sound in a five-set loss on Friday night. The Loggers pulled away in the tiebreaker set to win 25-18, 18-25, 19-25, 25-19, 15-6.Â
How it Happened
Puget Sound took an early lead thanks to an 8-1 run to close out the opening set to take a 1-0 lead. George Fox stormed its way back in the match, winning the second and third sets to take a 2-1 lead. The Bruins closed out both sets nicely, taking the second set 25-18 followed by a 25-19 set victory to take control of the match.Â
The Loggers weren't done going into the fourth match. UPS raced to an 18-11 lead in the set when the Bruins turned up the heat and leveled the score at 18-18. Puget Sound won seven of the next eight serves to make it 25-19 and force a fifth set.Â
George Fox was unable to find a rhythm in the fifth set and Puget Sound ran away with it, taking a 15-6 fifth set victory to win the match.
Top Performers
Kassandra Staton and
Addison Robertson continue to lead the Bruins in kills. Staton tallied a game-high 15 and Robertson added 13.
Bailey LeBreton returned to the court after missing some action and added 10 kills for the Bruins as well.
Kennedy Kibby had another strong game, contributing 41 assists.Â
Coach's Thoughts
"We played really well throughout the match tonight,"Â said head coach
Emily Davis. "Puget Sound made some smart decisions going into the 4th set and we didn't perform well in the end. I'm hopeful we will keep learning and improving each match."Â
What it Means
The Bruins fall to 2-5 in NWC play and 7-6 on the season, Puget Sound improves to 4-3 in NWC play and 10-6 on the year.
