Bruins Honor Seniors In Tilt Against Puget Sound

NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox volleyball program honored its two seniors and played host for Puget Sound on Friday, Nov. 6, in a 3-0 loss against the Loggers.

How It Happened

The Bruins started the night by recognizing Sophia Lawrence and Sophia Davies in a pre-game ceremony before kicking things off with a hard-fought first set. "It was nice to honor our seniors and all their hard work!" said coach Emily Davis of the pregame festivities.

After falling behind early, GFU climbed back within three using a 4-0 run to make it 15-13. The Bruins hung close but couldn't make up the rest in a 25-19 defeat to open the match.

Kills from Kassandra Staton, Bailey LeBreton, and Addison Hawes helped the Bruins build an early 5-3 lead in set two, but the Loggers tied it at 7-7 in short order before taking the lead for good. The Loggers widened their lead to five and held that edge the rest of the way in a 25-20 set two final.

The third stanza was all Loggers from the start as UPS continued its momentum, rolling to an 8-2 lead and never letting up from there. The Bruins were able to put a stop to the Loggers' long runs but struggled to get back into the set, and Puget Sound finished the sweep with a 25-14 final.

Top Performances

Staton led the team with eight kills and 15 digs in the loss, while LeBreton tallied four blocks and six kills.

Coach's Thoughts

"We didn't play very disciplined tonight," Coach Davis said after the match. "The Loggers were very in-system and they took advatnage of every opportunity we gave them. I'm proud of our serve receive for their effort tonight."
