NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox Bruins picked up a win with 40-point thrashing of the Nebraska Wesleyan on Sunday, outscoring the Prairie Wolves 49-15 in the second half en route to a 79-39 victory.
How It Happened
Cassidy Posey and Alyssa Wells scored the first nine points of the game for Fox, as the Bruins jumped out to an eight-point first quarter advantage. The Bruin defense flexed their muscles in the first; the Prairie Wolves would not score for the first six minutes of the game and were held to 18% shooting from the field.Â
An 11-0 Prairie Wolves run kept the second quarter close, but Fox retained a 33-24 lead heading to the break. Jenna Lacey scored six of her 11 total points in the quarter. The Bruins out-rebounded Nebraska Wesleyan 14-7 in the quarter, thanks in part to four offensive rebounds.Â
The Bruins came out of the halftime break and put together one of their most dominant quarters of the season. Fox outscored the Prairie Wolves 23-4Â shot 43% from the field, and finished the period on a 16-0 run. Eight different Bruins saw the ball go through the hoop in the impressive third quarter.Â
Kate Huguenin and Emma Reed combined for 15 of the Bruins' 23 fourth-quarter points as the Fox reserves got a full quarter's worth of action. The Bruins shot 4-6 from behind the arc as they coasted to a 40-point win in their last game before a Christmas break.
Top Performances
Reed — who had scored four points in her career prior to Sunday — exploded off of the bench to lead the team with 12 and was perfect on the afternoon, going 4-4 from the floor and 2-2 at the foul line. Jenna Lacey and Ella Roberts were close behind with 11 points and nine points for the Bruins. Guard Erin Yoshitake showed her versatility by leading the team with six rebounds, and Alexa Borter had a career outing with four blocks.Â
Statistically, the Bruins controlled nearly every aspect of the game. Fox held the Prairie Wolves to 16-60 (27%) shooting from the field and 1-20 (5%) from the three-point line. The Bruins out-rebounded Nebraska Wesleyan 48-34 in the game and spread the ball around well, tallying 20 assists.

"Today was a great team win, we established ourselves on the defensive end and are looking forward to making more strides after the holidays," coach Michael Coppolino said after the victory.
What It Means
Sunday's win is the biggest margin of victory for the Bruins since a 49-point victory over Lewis & Clark on November 30, 2018. The win improves Fox's record to 4-6 on the season.
