BOISE --- The George Fox men's tennis program officially opened its 2021 season with a tough match against an NCAA DI opponent in Boise State on Friday, Feb. 19.

How It Happened

The Bruins were blanked in doubles play by the Broncos for the first point of the match, giving Boise St. a 1-0 lead. The pairing of Will Leach and Luke Lemaitre did manage to take three sets from the Broncos' number one doubles flight.

In singles action, Leach fell 6-0, 6-4 in the first singles matchup. At the number two spot, Lemaitre battled his way to a 6-4, 6-2 defeat. Camden Camacho and Vahag Pashayan each fought to a 6-2, 6-1 defeat at the third and fourth singles spots, and Hunter Fujimori was defeated 6-0, 6-1 at the sixth singles spot. At the fifth spot in the lineup, Alle Banna forced a tiebreak in a 6-0, 7-5 defeat.

Their Thoughts

"It was great to finally be out on the court again," said head coach Jeff Cero. "The energy and effort were good, but the tennis and execution definitely left room for improvement. BSU did a great job making us pay for mistakes, especially in doubles, and in many of the first sets of the singles matches. Once guys got a little more settled, they definitely played and competed better. We are looking forward to the challenge against Idaho State tomorrow."

The Bruins start their return to play with a 0-1 record after facing a tough opponent in the Broncos.
