Box Score BOISE --- The George Fox men's tennis team played their second of five NCAA Division I preseason matchups on Saturday, Feb. 20, and fell 6-1 to the Idaho State Bengals.
How It Happened
Will Leach and Luke Lemaitre fought their way to a 6-4 doubles defeat and the Bruins' other pairings lost 6-0 to give the Bengals the point. In singles, Leach was successful against the Bengals' number one with a 6-1, 7-5 win. Lemaitre forced a tiebreak set in his second flight singles match with a 6-2, 7-5 defeat, and Camden Camacho fell 6-3, 6-2 at the number three singles. Vahag Pashayan and Alle Banna each notched 6-1, 6-1 defeats at nos. 4 & 5 singles and Hunter Fujimori was bested at the sixth flight, 6-0, 6-2.
Their Thoughts
"All the credit to Alex and his team; they played great tennis and competed well," said coach Jeff Cero. "Will did an awesome job of stepping up and played solid in doubles and singles. There was definitely a lot of improvement for sure from top to bottom. We're looking forward to getting Rox back in there against Seattle and Portland coming up."
What It Means
After another tough NCAA DI challenge, the Bruins are now 0-2 but have seen great opponents to push themselves.
