McMINNVILLE, Ore. --- The George Fox women's soccer program started its spring 2021 Northwest Conference schedule with a hard-fought battle against the Linfield Wildcats that resulted in a 2-1 defeat.

How It Happened

The Bruins and Wildcats played to a scoreless draw through the opening 45 minutes. Linfield edged the Bruins in shots and set piece opportunities in the first half, but the Bruins' back line kept the clean sheet through the half.

In the second period, the Wildcats again outpaced the Bruins with a three-shot advantage and three more set piece tries, but George Fox was able to strike first. In the 60th minute, the Bruins used a ball from Madison Burch played into the middle of the 18 to set up Maggee Hodgdon for a goal slotted top left. The Wildcats were able to answer back in the 75th minute to tie, however, and then netted the game-winner a few minutes later to claim the 2-1 win on their home field.

Top Performers

Hodgdon scored the Bruins' goal and led way with three shots, including two on-frame. Annalisa Klein made four saves against 12 shots, including six on-frame.

What It Means

The Bruins are now 0-1 after the loss, while the Wildcats move to 1-0 on the year.

The Bruins will host Lewis & Clark on Wednesday, Mar. 3, at 7:00 pm in Newberg.
