Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. --- The George Fox men's basketball team traveled to face Whitman on the road as the first part of a back-to-back weekend slate on Friday, Mar. 12, and fell 82-57.
How It Happened
The Bruins struggled in the first half against a Blues team that had far more season experience under their belt. By the midway point of the game, the Blues had doubled up on the Bruins 40-20, leaving George Fox a sizable hole to dig out of.
Coming out of the locker room, the Bruins' second-half adjustments were impressive. The final 20 minutes saw the Bruins play Whitman nearly to a draw. After Whitman opened the half on an 11-6 run, the Bruins were able to match them shot for shot the rest of the way to the finish no matter what lineup was on the floor.
Their shooting as a team ticked up throughout the second half and as a team, they were able to find success in the paint - the biggest struggle came at the three-point line throughout the afternoon.
Top Performers
Zach Schmerber led all Bruins with 10 points coming off the bench. Ryan Lacey and JD Ahlstrom tied for the team lead on the glass, grabbing five boards each.
What It Means
The Bruins fall to 0-3 on the year, but they have another 40 minutes of live competition under their belt as a team to prepare for the 2021-22 season.
What Happens Next
George Fox will lace them up again and face off against the Blues on Saturday, Mar. 13, to complete the weekend back-to-back series.
