FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- The George Fox women's basketball team took on the Boxers on the road and led almost from start to finish in a 70-48 victory over Pacific (Ore.) after dominating the glass on both ends of the court.

How It Happened

George Fox dug out of an early 10-4 hole and used that momentum to power through the rest of the first quarter, taking a 22-12 lead at the quarter break. The Bruins used a 16-7 second quarter to take a 38-19 lead at the half and scored consistently in transition and off of second chances. George Fox also did a great job on the glass in the opening half with 25 offensive rebounds as a team and 29 second-chance points from those boards.

The second half played out similarly with the Bruins' ball handlers consistently defeating the Boxers' pressure and out-working the Boxers on the glass. The Boxers were able to make adjustments and stuck closer to the Bruins' pace, but George Fox outscored its host in every quarter for the 70-48 final. As a team, the Bruins were out-shot by the Boxers in total attempts, but the Bruins limited their hosts to just 17 makes on the night from the field.

Top Performers

Cassidy Posey led all scorers with 17 points, Rachel Parks was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field for 16 points, and Mackenzie Lewis added 14 off the bench. Parks also led the team with seven boards, a steal, and a block, and Ella Roberts topped the squad with four dimes.

Their Thoughts

"Our defense really stepped up tonight," head coach Michael Coppolino said after the win. "We are still a work in progress with such a young team, but we are focused on improving every day and getting better over these next three weeks."

What It Means

George Fox moves to 3-1 on the year and 3-0 in NWC contests while the Boxers open the year at 0-1 in both categories.
