NEWBERG, Ore. --- The Bruins' volleyball team came away with their second victory of the season in a 3-1 match against the Linfield Wildcats.
How It Happened
The game began with a few back-and-forth kills before the Wildcats ran away with the score with an 11-point streak. The Bruins did an excellent job of catching up, but eventually lost the set 25-21.
The second set saw both teams keeping it lively, and while most of the points in the set were due to errors, the Bruins kept making kills and took it 22-25.
The Wildcats continued to make errors, keeping them from scoring until the Bruins had already put five points on the board. The Wildcats quickly came back, even going so far as to tie up the set, but the Bruins wound up taking it 18-25.
The fourth set saw the Bruins making more kills than any other set as they fended off the Wildcat's attempts at a comeback, taking the set to win the game with a 6-point streak.
Top Performers
Bailey LeBreton tallied a team-high 15 kills while Laney Search made 37 assists. Sophia Lawrence led with 25 digs and Ashtyn Butler tallied an impressive eight blocks, including a solo stuff at the net.
Their Thoughts
"We made some good adjustments during the match and I'm proud of how we finished," said head coach Emily Davis afterward. The back-to-back schedule this season is keeping things interesting so hopefully, we stay tough for the second matchup [this week]."
What It Means
The Bruins go to 2-2 in their conference standings and 2-3 overall, while the Wildcats continue their 0-5 losing streak.
