Early Goal Not Enough In Portland Rematch

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. --- The women's soccer program split its weekend home-and-away with Lewis & Clark in a 2-1 defeat on the Pios' home pitch.

How It Happened

The two sides played to a scoreless draw through the first 45 minutes on the pitch. Each side's keeper made a pair of saves in the first period to keep it 0-0.

That shutout bid was broken up first by the Bruins in the 51st minute after freshman Hannah Beardemhl found a patch of unguarded twine and did the work herself to take a 1-0 lead.

The Pios leveled the score again at 1-1 in the 65th minute, however, after George Fox was whistled for a foul in the box and the penalty kick was successful. In the 74th minute, the Pios' offense was able to beat the Bruins with another goal and held off the Bruins' remaining tries for the 2-1 final.

Top Performers

Beardemphl put in the Bruins' lone goal of the day, but Maggie Choate was able to put two shots on frame. Lindsay Sandy and Hannah Moya also put shots on target in the effort, and Annalisa Klein tallied two saves on the day.

What It Means

The Bruins drop to 1-2 overall and hold the same record in conference play while the Pios improve to 1-1.

What Happens Next

The Bruins will host Linfield on Sunday, Mar. 14 at 12:00 pm to continue that spring 2021 season series.
